Dear friends, deep into the middle of Summer 2022, things have been hopping, and continue to be so, I am happy to report! I have become a steady fixture at the fun, friendly and fabulous club, Swing 46 on Restaurant Row in NYC. It’s a very chill place and has music every night. I have more gigs coming there, and I am delighted to be on their roster.
The Royal Bopsters have had a flag waver of a year so far: we kicked things off at the legendary Minton’s of Harlem in March, then sang three nights at Birdland to a sold out crowd and received the Outstanding Vocal Jazz Award at the Bistro Awards the next night. We caught our breath for a week, then flew to Istanbul where we performed at a private party on the rooftop of the fabulous Aspera Hotel, and then we packed Nardis Jazz Club the next night. We had a beautiful time in fascinating Istanbul, surrounded by great jazz musicians and dear friends! We went on to Austria, where we performed with the brilliant Dena DeRose and her trio to sold out clubs in Graz, Poysdorf and Vienna. We presented workshops in both Turkey and Austria to enthusiastic and talented jazz singers. In July, we sold out the Deer Head Inn. We had such a wonderful debut gig at that legendary club, we are already invited back for Spring/Summer 2023. What a delightful place. It was the musical home of Bob Dorough and Phil Woods in the Poconos.
I am off to my hometown of Cincinnati next weekend to present a tribute to Mark Murphy and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, my main bebop singing inspirations. I love going back home and playing with one of my favorite pianists, Steve Schmidt with fellow New Yorkers and dear friends, both jazz legends, Steve Williams and Ron Horton.
The Bopsters have more fun gigs coming down the pike, as do I, so please keep an eye on our websites!
Stay well and cool, xoAmy
