Dear friends, welcome to Spring 2023! Things have been hopping on the NYC jazz scene! Since early 2022, I have become a steady fixture at the fun and fabulous Swing 46 on Restaurant Row in NYC. I have played there several times a month for nearly two years, with more gigs to come over the Spring and Summer. I am delighted to be a regular performer on their roster, along with so many esteemed and well respected NYC jazz musicians. Swing 46 is a warm and welcoming club, come on through and check it out! I have also been out and about in NYC, and recently enjoyed excellent jazz at the brand new Purple Tongue on West 43rd Street, and Patrick’s Place in Harlem. There is so much jazz happening in the NYC area!
On Fridays, March 31, April 7, 14, 21 you can find me at Swing 46, and On Saturday, May 6, I will be singing at the legendary Deerhead jazz club in Stroudsberg, PA with my fellow Bopster, the amazing Pete McGuinness. On Saturday, April 8, I will be singing at a fun new club out in the Poconos, The Outpost. On Sunday, May 14, I will be singing at North Square Lounge in Greenwich Village in honor of Mother’s Day. On Saturday, June 3, I will perform in Milford, PA in a concert with my dear friend Ronny Whyte, trumpeter/flugelhornist Ron Horton and a fantastic rhythm section, and I will be singing in that area at different times over the summer. From June 18 to 23, I will be faculty at Tritone Jazz Camp in Rochester, NY. In July, Ron Horton and I will travel to Italy for some gigs and workshops with wonderful Italian jazz musician friends, the incredible singer/guitarist Francesca Bertazzo, and her partner, swinging bassist Beppe Pilotto. August 21 to 24, I will travel to Quebec to join the renowned Canadian jazz faculty at Jazz Works Canada Camp.
2022 was a flag waver year for The Royal Bopsters. We kicked things off at the legendary Minton’s of Harlem in March, then sang three nights in May at Birdland to sold out houses, then received the 2022 Outstanding Jazz Artistry Award at the Bistro Awards the next night. We caught our breath for a week, then flew to Istanbul where we performed at a private party on the rooftop of the fabulous Aspera Hotel, and then packed Nardis Jazz Club the next night. We had a beautiful time in fascinating Istanbul, surrounded by great jazz musicians and dear friends! We journeyed on to Austria, where we performed with the brilliant Dena DeRose and her trio to sold out clubs in Graz and Poysdorf, and topped off the tour selling out Jazzland in Vienna for two nights. We presented workshops in both Turkey and Austria to enthusiastic and talented jazz singers. In July, we packed the legendary Deerhead in the Delaware Watergap, PA, and have an open invitation to return. What a groovy place, it was the musical home of jazz legends Bob Dorough and Phil Woods.
In July, I travelled to my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, where I presented a two night tribute to my jazz singing heroes, Mark Murphy and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross at the fantastic club, Caffe Vivace. I love going back home and singing with one of my favorite pianists, Steve Schmidt, and I brought along fellow New Yorkers, both jazz stars, Steve Williams and Ron Horton. We sold out both nights, and have an open invitation to return.
I have lots of fun gigs coming down the pike, so please keep an eye on my website!
Stay well and cool! Thanks for going out and supporting live jazz,
xoAmy
